Box Ball

Box ball was born out of working late nights at the Stylin Strings Studio. Dustin (founder) & Zach (apparel director) would grab two stress balls that we pack in the pockets when they ship and a random Red Bull or USPS box laying around. We would set the box on a desk, table or countertop, preferably against a wall and play a game of PIG, which eventually became a game of BOX.

In January of 2017 we started designing our own custom box that we could ship lacrosse heads with. We then started using our prototype box to play games of BOX ball. Quickly we realized the stress relief and competitive nature of it as we started doing trick shots, and running bets on games that we would talk about the next day in the office. After 6 months of testing we decided to beef up the corrugate to give it more strength during shipping as well as giving the box more rigidity during use. We also grabbed mini sticks and realized we could play in doors with the miniature lacrosse sticks we sell.

The final box ended up with some flaps to give us back boards and a tab to help prevent the ball from popping out as much and lock it. Tag @stylin_strings and hashtag #boxball & #boxballtrickshots with your best shots as we will award random prizes for cool stuff we see. Keep the box and the ball.

You can make your own but these are the originals:

1. One ball is enough but one per person is better, need more throw them in your cart.
2. First person shoots, if you make, second person has to make or gets a letter. If you have more than two players and both make third person has to make the same shot. B - O - X
3. Be creative, use walls, bounces, mega long shots, or rolling chairs, but you must call it, even if its an off hand. You can call things like cross over - spin move - step back jumper.
4. If the ball bounces in and out it does not count. Must stay in the box.
5. If someone walks into your path of shot you get to reshoot, or if their a jerk like Zach and they swat your ball that was going in they get a letter. Instant replay would be nice, maybe in version 2.
6. Talk trash, best part of the game.
7. If you want to extend the game make the X a forward slash on the 3rd miss. Another dumb Zach iteration but we use it in best of 3 games.
8. When your boy (Enver) who comes in who is a lefty and dusts everyone first game out - it’s a fluke, the box will feel like it has a lid for stretches.
